About to kill car... '99 Mazda 323 headlight replacement

 Could Mazda have made it any more awkward to replace a passenger side headlight in a '99 323? I need four hands. One to stop the bulb moving, one to hold the collar and locking ring out of your way and a remote camera to see if the wire clip is engaged underneath the whole monstrosity, then two more hands, one to hold the clip underneath and another to clip it into place above. Add to that they don't give you an inch of room to move behind the light either.

Is there an easier way to do this without going to a garage?

You need to practice! Changed the bulbs on my mams 323 and don't remember them being especially difficult.

I dunno, I got the bulb in, but the clip isn't on properly so I doubt it's aligned right... I'll have another go when I get home and am closer to the sledge(hammer) :D

That's just unbelievable. What a ridiculous design.

Oh yeah, I used to be just about able to change the passenger side bulb in my Magane. It would take me half hour and scraped knuckles trying to get my hand up in through a small gap after the wheel arch opening.

When it came to the drivers side bulb, I never got it, I would end up giving the car to a mechanic. To make matters worse, the dip beam bulbs went fairly often - every few months.

I had to help Stealthyspeeder from here change the one in his MPS, front bumper had to be undone and the inner wing removed iirc. Although true to form for him it turned out it wasn't the bulb but the ballast
