The girlfriend has a 2007 opel astra, this morning the boot won't open, the central locking is working fine for the doors but won't unlock the boot, either will the lock/unlock button inside the car. Also as far as i can see there is no other way of opening it (i could be wrong on this, i looked in the dark!). Any ideas?

It's an electronic mechanism that operates the boot catch. When you press the "handle" on the boot lid you can hear a little motor operating before the boot opens.

First port of call would be to check the fuses - hopefully it's a simple fix.

Check if window washers are working if they don't fuse in fusebox blown.

Otherwise its the electronic part of the handle faulty go to opel and get new rear handle for boot door

as above check if rear washer is working if not lift bonnet and replace fuse no.8 10amp in the fuse box on right hand side of engine, happened my sisters astra 2 days ago, simple fix

Thanks for the help folks. I thought it sounded like a fuse at first, but then i thought there would only be one fuse for all locks, no?
It's not making any noise when you press the boot "handle", nor can i hear anything from the boot when the central locking is locking/unlocking the other doors. Wipers were working, not sure about the washers, i'll check them when i get home.

ive seen the button inside the boot lock handle breaking before, i think the glue opel use isnt good enough, if you take it apart and re-glue it, it should be ok

We've just had a call in here with someone unable to open the boot on their Astra!

Our maintenance department were very impressed when I told them fuse no.8 needs replacing if the rear washer jets aren't working too.

See - reading boards all day isn't a waste of time in work :-)

Most likely to be the fuse. Fuse is shared between windscreen washer and tailgate release motor. It is NOT the same fuse as for the central locking.

Had this problem on a Zafira earlier this week. The lad working on it had just ordered a replacement boot lock handle (approx 75 euro), but I got suspicious. On the Zafira it could be fuse 7 or fuse 8, as two different fuse layouts are used. The guy had checked fuse 8 but not fuse 7.

Cause is usually trying to use washers when resevoir and motor frozen - fuse blows to protect the motor.

Hi all; Can anyone tell me how to remove the outer handle on an Astra H (2006), as I have changed the locking mechanism with a known good locking mechanism and checked the fuses which are fine and the boot still wont open so I suspect it maybe the outer handle.
Any information or pictures would be great. Thanks
