rite lads just want to find out how to use these iron sights, they seem fairly simple but they seem to have distance markers set into them if you know what i mean heres a pic......
    dsc00431bc.jpg

its fairly old so excuse the decay!:p was given to me through generations....
what i want to know is does anybody know what distances each point on the slider are set for if you know what im talking about??
    another pic to help visualise
    dsc00417zo.jpg

the part of the sight that has a jagged appearance slides to the right therefore moving the sight up into the next jagged part.... interesting to know what distances each one of these are set for? the rifle .22wmr using cci hollow points..
    thanks for readin lads

As you have a scope mounted, these are'nt necessary, just set the scope up to be on target at 100 yds.The iron sights were on my .22 WMR before the scope was mounted too.

    On my dad's old .22 it was 50, 75, 100, 125, 150 & 200.

Remove the slider fully, should be close, <25yrds
    1st notch 50yrds
    2nd notch 75-100

But I would imagine it differs from gun to gun, My first gun with irons looked like it was graduated up to 300yrds for a .22lr

My old Mauser was 100 out to 2000 Optimistic for a 6.5mm :D

Most .22 variants are graduated in 25yard increments, generally starting @50

However, it is entirely dependant on ammo to whether the graduations are of any use!

rite but id say it goes the same with the 22wmr only that the notches are a little smaller to allow for less drop than the 22lr?? what you think?

Ye I say it would be around the same but don't forget that different bullets act different in different guns.

Say if you set your sights for 50 yards the bullet could be hitting high so you might actually have to set it for the 75 yard range to hit the 50 yard target.

I don't think the marking matter that much on the iron sights. They just give a rough idea and then it is up to the shooter to set up a target say at 100 yards and find the exact position of the sights.

I remember using a remington yellow jacket (hyper velocity) in dad's gun and set the sights for 50 yards and it was working out that if I set the sight at 75 it was closer to the mark than the 50 yard sighting.

that remington yellow jacket (hyper velocity) sounds like a fast round and wouldnt drop as much thats prob why it was higher... sure ill hit few targets at different ranges dis weekend maybe and ill post the pics but first ill have to stock up on ammo very low and dont know will i be able to as the roads very bad here bout an inch of snow again and snowing constant:eek:

Ye just set up targets at your usual distances and try and get a feel for the iron sights. It will be difficult to use them with a scope on top.

I put a scope on dad's old 1 when he had it with the mounts with a gap in the middle of them and it was very hard to get a clear picture like you would with no scope on.

Where about are you in the country?
I'm in Galway now and nothing happening but say its going to freeze. Not sure what its like back at home in Athlone though
