The gas in the bottle has frozen - I think it can freeze from around -4oc. Ring Calor, they should be able to tell you what to do.

Butane Freezes at about -0.5 deg. When it freezes it liquefies and wont pass the regulator (thingamajig:)) which is most likely the problem.

Propane freeze at about -42, so I'm guessing you are using butane?

    yes butane

does the bottle have to go bak

or do i bring it indoors for a while

how long does it stay frozen-as it's not been cold the last day or two

Hardly cold enough at the minute to cause it to freeze I didn't think. Bring it into the house for a few hours, and when you put it back out, give the regulator a bit of hot water and see does that do it.

It can't deal with the cold weather as posted, I wouldn't advise bring it in the house unless your are 100% happy it's safe, the correct thing to do is swap it for propane, alot of alliances burn both bit check first.

It will be fine, once the weather improves.

The same thing happened to me during the very cold weather, it was a full bottle which was unusual as I have known it to happen quite easily with an almost empty one, but changing the bottle usually solves it.

I had an insulated jacket from the old hot cylinder so I put some pipe insulation on the exposed pipe and covered the rest with the cylinder jacket. It worked fine but the following day froze again, but this time the cylinder just needed a shake (which will often work) and it was ok again, and hasn't frozen again.

i have a new regulator and a new bottle-still no joy

only a short piece of pipe to cooker

i tested everything on a portable butane camping stove

the 2 bottles and the regulator all work fine

the prob must be the pipe or gas hob

I hesitate to state the obvious, but its an outside possibility - have you tried using a match to light the gas rather than just using the automatic lighter?

M cebee never said they were using the electronic ignition. Plus, he is an electrician so I assume that he has obviated these issues.

Its unlikely to be the pipe inside the house, as it would be at the ambient temp in the house, and it wouldn't be affected.

Since you are fairly handy, how's about taking the flexi gas pipe and the regulator and putting it straight to the hob, skipping the solid copper. That should make it easy to rule out weather the pipe or the hob is the issue

i'll take another look when i get time

i assumed:) it was the bottle or regulator-but these are working

don't use the electronic ignition-it's broke

    i have it fixed

there was ice in the pipe -where it passes through external wall

    WRT gas liquefying;
Is it simply a matter of exchanging Butane for Propane for the winter ?

Will the same regulator and burner nozzles in the appliance suffice ?

    No.

Propane operates at a higher pressure than butane. You will need a new regulator, and check if you're appliance are suitable for propane.....

Just to be pedantic .... Butane does not freeze at -1C .... it changes from a gas to a liquid, which makes it unusable in gas appliances.

    The boiling point is -1C
The freezing point is, I believe, -138C
