Nope. Stream wirelessly or view from a memory stick is all

It's fairly easy to stream anyways which is what I do, can use Windows Media Player, Tversity or Vuze. Streaming is probably better anyways and you can acess all your catalogue of films etc in the one spot. Without having to waste time transfering them.

why does every one keep pushing the streaming.

it sucks that you have to have your pc on at the same time. waste of electricity. Either way try setting up Windows Media Center with 10k+ songs :) see how that works :)

I bought an xbox today in Harvey Normans and was told I could copy movies onto the Harddrive, this was one of the main reasons I bought this, have I been shafted here? Whats the point of 250gb?

Well it could be one of two things, either the person told you that you could copy games onto the hard drive (which you can do) and you misheard them (it happens trust me) or they were mistaken/lying

The good thing about the big hard drive is most full games will be around the 7GB mark so if you got the 4GB one instead you would not be able to download games from xbox live or store them on your hard drive

No I definatly asked if I could copy movies ( the reason being my media player doesnt play .mkv files so he said yeah you can copy them over) so I thought 200 euro was daylight robbery, again I suoppose if it seems too good to be true it usually is!

I don't think the xbox plays mkv files.

    were on the same boat.

was so pissed of to find out about that ;) at least my wii can play movies of the HDD :)

Doesn't tversity allow you to play them on your xbox.

Dude you can just stream to the xbox instead of putting it on the hard drive. If you can use tversity, you should have no problem. w/o it, you can still stream any AVI file to the xbox. So just convert your .mkv to .avi :)

If you have an external hard drive you can watch them on the 360 via the usb, so long as they are compatible. Though I'm sure there is software on the net that could convert files on your laptop before playing them on your 360. As far as I'm aware you can't store videos or DVDs on your 360 hard drive. Maybe he was talking about Netflix in the US or something. I doubt it. Moral of the story is never trust a salesman hungry for commission.

As for the point of the large hard drive? Well I have a 120 GB and mainly use it for arcade games, DLC and installing retail games on my 360.(Trust me it's worth it, no noisy loading and less loading times.)

And what relevance is that? After all if you're worried about using up your dl cap, you can just run an ethernet cable from the pc to the xbox. I had no problem with that before, unless they got rid of the ability in the newer models/updates

if you have all your movies downloaded on a external hard drive on your pc, like me!
unplug the external hard drive and connect it into the usb on your xbox360.
play games straight away without streaming,

    tada!!

Unless of course they're mkv's, as has already been pointed out. And as for the suggestion of converting to AVI, many mkvs will go well over the 4GB file size limit that FAT32 (which AFAIK the HDD needs to be) imposes on files while maintaining the same quality, so it's far from an ideal solution too.

other option is to convert the mkv's to avi and then stream them from your pc using tversity.

but of course that would be your last resort

I convert my MKVs into AVIs and then split the file if necessary, works a treat

As for streaming I tried that and found it too laggy at times, probably just my router. I have a 1.5tb hard drive that just sits plugged into the xbox for watching my vids.

Get some powerline adapters to connect your pc to your xbox.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-PA201-Starter-Powerline-Ethernet/dp/B002H0Y9G2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=computers&qid=1288736555&sr=8-1

You can then stream everything through tversity.

Why is it when I have a movie on my computer upstairs into my xbox folder it could take up to a day for the XBox to see the file. I nearly always end up putting it on a memory stick and playing it from there, but then the next day the file is viewable.

Ahh i dont see the point in this discussion anymore. Why should i spend extra money on that?

At the end of the day you cant put movies or music on it (unless your rip your 200 CD's onto it :O ).

You might be able via home brew if your on the old Xbox 360 but if your on the 360S your ****ed. Streaming is a pain in the hole. Means i have to go upstairs and turn the PC on. Just pointless effort. 40% of the reason why i bought it and alot of people who did bought it for entertainment purposes. And then we get a kick between the two nuts.

I did the research on what movies it can play, but the fact that your not allowed to put stuff on the 250GB HDD (which was the reason i didn't take 4GB) didn't even come into my mind .

Copy paste should be allowed. But hey wtf can u do

Then trade it in and get a ps3, and stop wasting all our time.
