Borrowing Running Gear in Hotels

A few weeks ago, I got snowed-in in Manchester and couldn't get home. I had to stay overnight in the Mariott, which had a nice swimming pool and gym. I had no gear with me, so asked if I could borrow some togs, goggles etc. I was told that they had a strict policy of not loaning out any equipment. I bought a pair of togs, and goggles, and did a decent swim session anyway.

Today I saw an article on Twitter (via Runnersworld) saying that a chain of hotels is introducing a scheme where guests can borrow gear, and New Balance running shoes.

Would you avail of this service if available? Any risks associated with it? I guess the wear and tear on the shoes is a major concern, but would 1 or 2 runs in such shoes really make that much of a impact? Thoughts?

I've seen my running gear. I can usually smell it before I've seen it, even when its been recently boiled in the washing machine.. No way I'd borrow stuff :D

I wrote a comment along the lines of "No, that sounds horrible" but, after actually reading the article, I have to say I would come around to the idea with the exception of socks.

I spend a fair amount of time traveling, and I have never found it too hard to squeeze my gear into my carry on, but the few times I have forgotten or haven't been able to bring my gear it has bugged me. Well, bugged me up until I find the bar...

If you've ever had to stop your shorts getting intimate with you...you wouldn't even consider it!;)
