ups delivered a package on my name to some randomer , which apparently should be a neighbour of mine ,even if I never heard of him.
The item was purchased from the uk using a citydeal voucher , and adding money approx 120e on top of that.
The site had written in transit since the 9th of dec , however it said already in dublin.
I enquired this morning ups about it, they said the sender had to ring them to carry out an investigation.
The tracking page then said, delivered on the 9th to someone's name.
Nobody in my area contacted me these days about a package in my name.
I rang them to find out which house number did they deliver to, they said the driver cant rememeber exactly...

anyone know what options do i have now?

Get back onto the seller and tell them you didn't receive the item. It's not your responsibility to chase up the error of the courier that they hired.

Deal with the retailer - it's nothing to do with you. The retailer has the contract with UPS.

Moved to Online Buying & Auctions

they said the sender had to ring them to carry out an investigation

they're fobbing you off... if you are the reciever name on the parcel they should also have to open an investigation for you if you request one...
as has been said before its not your responisibility to follow this up but sometimes it can be the quickest way to get things done.

just heard back from them again, they told me that a tracer needs to be opened, when i rang them they then told me only the sender can open a tracer so I just told the seller to open one.
to be honest i dont know where this is gonna lead.. the person who signed for it doesnt live in my area, i asked the postman this morning if he ever delivered anything to such name and he said he never heard of him , so its obviously made up.

i will wait for a reply from the seller, but i am thinking of contacting the credit card as well. only thing is , since i used a city deal voucher to pay for the item, i dont think i will get back the full amount

It could have went to a completely different post route, maybe somewhere with a similar sounding or spelled name. If that's the case, then it's gone for good, unless the recipient returns it.

If you get a refund, you'll only get as much as you paid. You may have to contact Citydeal about the voucher, and they could issue a replacement, or reissue the existing one. As long as the retailer agrees that they will not collect on the current voucher, then it should be OK.

i wonder if the credit card company can do anything about this?
if so, whats the maximum time frame for them to act?

this tracer could take weeks i am reading

screw that.. its your parcel thats gone missing and its their responisibility! call again and let them know your not happy with it and quite angry (dont be rude though.. it never helps) if they still refuse to open a trace on it ask to speak to their supervisor...

No, it's the sender's package and contract, not the recipient's. It's the sender's responsibility to follow this through, and the courier doesn't have to deal with the recipient if they don't want to. It's also best to deal with the sender, as they are ultimately responsible until the item is received anyway, so it is up to them to refund the buyer, or resend the item.

The buyer's contract is with the seller, and does not involve the courier, and the courier has no responsibility to the recipient.

I'm presuming this is a pair of sunglasses.

I had a pair delivered yesterday from the same company as I bought under the same deal. UPS delivered to a neighbour as I wasn't in. The name appearing on the delivery receipt online was only slightly like the name of the person who had signed for it. Same first letter and same number of letters.

Clearly the signature and it's translation may be incorrect, so do not trust the name, it may still be a neighbour.

    yes sunglasses indeed.

ye but surely even if it was a neighbour , a week has passed, he would at least tried to knock at my door or leave a note saying that he has something for me?

one thing that i am not too happy about is this, the reply from the company

''if they are unable to find the package then they will reimburse us for the amount and we will then be able to send you a new pair or refund you.''

so if ups dont pay up or it takes them a month to pay, i will neither be refunded or receive a new pair?? that doesnt sound very fair

so any idea what is best to do here?
leave it in the hands of the seller and be out of pocket in the meantime?ring the credit card company and say that i never received what i paid for?

Don't think the credit card company will do anything and if the seller is trying to resolve the problem it's not very nice to do a chargeback on them.

I'd give the seller some time to chase the courier.

You'll have to wait until the seller can get the courier to investigate. A bank will definitely not touch it until after some time has passed (usually 1-3 months after the charge is placed).

so the seller originally told me that a tracer would take 8 days to be completed..
that was yesterday, so i emailed them again and now they said that they rang ups and they told them they would have an answer by next week

isnt it a bit odd to keep postponing the end of a tracer?
