Depends what part of the country your in, In dublin i think 107.9 works well. Down the country there is less interference so it not so hard to find a free frequency.

I've been using one for almost 2 years (a Gear4, cant think of the model). I have it set to 87.5 and its worked all around the south and west of the country, and not too bad around dublin if i remember correctly

EDIT: sorry i misread your post, so 87.5 is no good to you!
in my experience looking for a clean channel you're more likely to find one at the low end and the high end of the frequencies your transmitter covers

I used to have transmitter, think I used 99 or 100.
On the radio do a search until you find a place that isn't close to any stations then use that on the transmitter.

in all fairness the transmitter you have is not great, i bought one similar to that about 18 months ago and had serious issues with it. Decided to replace it, shelled out €45 and got a belkin one that was so good that the wife stole it and i had to buy a second one.

Your best spending a little extra to get a better product

In the NE there is a 2.7 MHz gap between DundalkFM (100.0) and Lyric FM from Clermont Carn (102.7) so try 101.3

There's also a 1.5 MHz gap between RnaG from Monaghan (93.3) and Northern Sound from Cavan (94.8) so try 94.1

However you can always get caught out by pirate radios. Tune to a test frequency while you're parked in a quiet spot, make sure there's lots of hiss and no background sound of someone talking or of music, that confirms that you've found a blank spot on the waveband.

Maybe this is some use to peeps:

    http://www.frequencyfinder.org.uk/FM_87_108.pdf

Also the transmitters are not going to transmit much further than the inside of your car so i wouldnt be concerned about all of us using the same frequency...so if someones got one that works best nationally lettuce know.

Im forever travelling between Cork -> Dublin -> Waterford

Ill report back if I find a channel thats decent nationally
