I've searched on Citizens Information and on this site but can't find an answer......
The night shifts I work are from 8pm to 6am.
How long of a break am I entitled to for this shift ?
And am I entitled to paid breaks ?
    Thanks in advance.

15 mins paid in the morning for the first 4.5 hours , and 30 mins unpaid in the evening for the next 6 hours.

All respect to the irish statute book... but this is a bit easier to digest:

op what breaks do you get? I always got 1hr unpaid and 1/2 hr paid for that shift(retail)

easily solved.. at 11am just get up from your desk, make a cup of coffee, go for a slash... a lot of people, especially in office jobs, usually don't bother taking an 11 break.

Wow that is really bad for a 10 hr shift, so you get paid for 9.5 hours per shift?

What sector do you work in, if there was an accident in work, the amount of rest you get could leave your employer open to blame.

For shift work breaks should be paid.

    well there ya go!
I think on night shifts where it's not possible to allow you to leave for a 15 minute break your employer can put a television in your work area to compensate you for not having a proper break. I'm nearly sure I read that somewhere before

I get 20 mins for 4.5 hours, 30 mins for 6 - 8, 1 hour for 8 hours, 1 hour + 20 mins for 9 hours, 1 hour + 30 mins for 10 hours, 1 hour + 30 mins + 20 mins for 12 hours. Not sure if that is the legal limit or not. Seems rather generous (The 20 min breaks are paid for once you work 9+ hours)

    (Retail, BTW)

I work in IT, so the chances of an accident are minimal.
Hope I haven't just jinxed myself!
