According to wiki the definition of an appliance is 'household machines, using electricity or some other energy input'

What exactly do you mean by independent motor?

The way its written, I would class the fan as an appliance.
My logic being I'm not sure why they would deliberately exclude a fan from the appliance definition:confused:
Though I've no idea what they mean by "independent motor".
