There was a similar thread here a few days ago, too lazy to search now. Anyway I'd recommend shopping in FSV near Gleeson's Sports Store Upr William St. for TVs.

2nd choice would be Soundstore out the Tipperary road.

    Here it is:

I'd also recommend Future, Sound, Vision (FSV) at the top of William Street. I have bought my TVs, etc from Tony and Sean over the years. They will not put you wrong. Soundstore are also worth checking out.

Soundstore or harveys. If you can hold off that long, i'd advise visiting harveys early chistmas eve, got 200 knocked of a tv last year.

ended up buying a Grundig 37" in Argos, reduced down to 360. Not set it up yet but seems okay. Couldn't find any better deals, although Curry's had a really nice Samsung 40" for 519, but I really couldn't justify spending the extra on it to be honest, not planning to fork out on a HD package anytime soon:D

Was in Harvey Normans this evening and saw a 46" Samsung LED TV for nearly €3,000 , who needs a TV that costs that amount of money.

I was out there this evening too, looking for a tv as a present. Thought great - sale day today till midnight tonight might get something off. In all the Tv's down there - I only saw one that had a price reduction of about €50 on a good size tv..... Waste of a journey...... false advertising by Harvey Normans.

I did the same thing, what a joke!

I never see the attraction of buying from the likes of Harvey Norman or Curry's anyway. You may save a few quid on the purchase price but their aftersales service is poor in my experience. I also find that they try and sell you something that you don't want.

have to disagree with your comment on the after-sale service from HN - always good on the computer side of things!

Never had an issue with after sales from either curry's or harvey norman.
And as you point out - you do get it a bit cheaper...

However, I do prefer to keep it local so get prices from them and try to encourage the Irish guys to meet or beat. If they don't then I have to pay with my wallet.

The sales tactics of HN have always been the same. A few items reduced, but not great savings on the other stuff... You really need to want what they adervtise specifically, otherwise shop around and you will get a better deal.

I find sound store up by Fine Wines excellent. Used to buy from them when I lived in Cork, and I find the sales staff friendly and informed. They are also excellent in price matching if you find it cheaper else where.

I'd recommend steering clear of non-brand TV's, they are more then likely going to break faster then brand ones, and have a bad repair rate. FSV on Upper William St. would be your best bet, and argos or even Tesco. I wouldn't touch Harveys if I were you, horrible service and they are way too overpriced for what your getting.

Never tried soundstore in Delta, but I only ever heard good things.

Surely it must of been the new range of LED 3D tv's, new technology always costs the most sure

Eddie Hobbs himself says you should always spend a little bit more on a TV because you will likely keep the thing for years. I had my last TV for 6 years. I now have Samsung LCD TVs with full HMDI and until I see a better screen resolution I'm not going to look for anything else.

LCD and Plasma get very hot though. LED would not get soo hot so it might be a little easier on the power consumption.

I'm aware of that but I really dont ubderstand why someone has to buy a TV while it's at it's peak cost wise. I thought the celtic tiger had left these shores.

ah,its like anything though. Some people want the latest gadgets,be ahead of the curve. If they have the money to €3000 on a tv,well fair fooks to them.

My own tv cost €1300 and I felt that was alot (totally worth it though)

After doing the rounds of the shops at the week-end - I ended up in Curry's over on the Dublin Road.

Lovely lad in there, Jason, couldn't have been more helpful.

Just word of warning - make sure that when you buy a TV that you're aware that the analog will be gone by end of 2011 and all tv's in the house will need a decoder box at a cost of about €60-100 for each one.

Best to pay that little more, you can clearly see the difference between the HD tv's and the old style ones.

Oh another thing - don't buy a TV/DVD combi - (another Jason hint) if the DVD goes, the whole thing has to go back for repair! Get the TV - DVD's can be got from €26 onwards or just plug the laptop into it and watch it that way!

    :D

If the truth be told - I thought that too :D

If he was - he talked himself out of money!
