Marathon while pregnant

Just discovered I'm 5 weeks pregnant and I'm at week 7 of my 18 week marathon training plan.

The doctor advised doing no more than I am currently used to - 12 miles has been the max so far so that means I should leave it. Will be 17 weeks at the marathon.

I've looked at previous posts and runners world. However I'd really like to hear from those who have run (or not run) while pregnant or any doctors out there who run and consequently understand runners.

The husband thinks marathons are bad for you at the best of times so needless to say he wants me to stop. And as for the in laws, when we tell them I will definitely get dirty looks for running:D

Doctor's advice will take precedence over any replies you get here and I would expect this thread to be locked before you can say 'holy contractions Batman'.

Why take a chance with your babys health?
Marathons are gruelling at the best of times.
I agree the lock is close.

    Hi lipi,

the quote above means we have to lock the thread I'm afraid. Please refer to the charter about medical advice- there is a Boards wide policy to be heavy-handed in this regard. I appreciate you are looking for similar tales of runners who have run while pregnant, but no-one can give any better specific advice than your doctor.

Mod: Gonna have to close the thread due to this. Experiences are one thing but you are looking for medical advice which is in breach of the charter. If you do not like the opinion of your doctor i suggest you go to a doc with a sports background
