I used to see about 1,900ms on IBB Ripwave.

Less than 300 meters from the mast!

    However...

Have you some wierd satellite system?

    your ISP in screenshot.
    JSC Nursat 42 Timiryazev St, Expo-City, Pavilion 15/1 B-V 050051 Almaty KAZAKHSTAN.

    Satellite is typically over 700ms

    For "local Servers"

Mobile typically 150ms but varies from 80ms (rare) to 2000ms. 200ms+ common.
    Cable is 9ms to 25ms
    DSL is 15ms to 70ms
    Metro Wireless about 25ms

Depends what sort of Internet or Broadband you have. Also "further away" servers from your ISP's edge router are bigger ping.

600ms is not bad for Satellite broadband in fairness. There's no way around it either. Simply put, it's due to the distances involved for the data to travel.
You're essentially (being basic here) transmitting and receiving from your home to the Satellite in the sky, which is outside of the Earth, then back down to the ISP wherever in the world they may be, which then actions your request to the internet itself then sends it back up to the Satellite in the sky which then sends it back down to your home on Earth. So all that taken into consideration, I'd be happy enough for just over half a second delay :)

No, the size of the dish has nothing to do with ping, and ping and connection are not necessarily linked. You can have a 100% perfect connection with your satellite broadband, but your ping will never be any better than about 600-700ms. You've actually got a very good ping, for the system you're using.

Microwaves can't travel any faster than the speed of light, so the only solution would be to move the satellite closer, but that's not going to work, is it?

    Thread also moved to Midband.
