statutory declaration, form attached. fill it out, have a dealer stamp it to say its the same car and bring it to your local court office to have it signed and then off to the tax office and apply for a new cert. form also attached.

PS. thats an arsehole ya bought the car off! send him a msg and tell him that

If you bought as seen , you have not much chance of getting your money back. However if you have the car and no log book. You can get the book by going to the motor tax office and getting a form signed. You then have to go to a garage and a pc or solicitor and sign that the car is yours. Doesn't cost but is a bit tedious.:D

Sounds like they are trying to get a few quid for the logbook, ie blackmail...

Tell them that you are expecting a speeding fine I am sure they will oblige in getting the book across.

Would this not be a case of you owing the previous owner a few quid for the car,and they witholding the book waiting for same, and you not wanting to hand over that money because you've since found out that the car is a heap?

Did you see the log book prior to purchase or is it possible the seller was never the actual owner of the car in the first place?

thanks for replys, no i was under the impression the money i handed over was the full and final price, and the log book had apparently been mislaid by the owner whose 'friend' handed me the car and key. its a mean trick but already one of the mechanics at the garage i took it to has offered to buy it for a hundred less than paid , and i'd take it , but w/o the log book, dont know if i can...

You can try returning the car saying your Garda dad said it's useless without the logbook...
