unless the husband has a good eye for spotting possable trouble in cars and is fairly knolegable about the kind of 4x4 he is after id advise against the auctions. You have no chance of a test drive and a very short time if any in places to see the car started and running infront of you. I have bought lots of cars at auction(car dealer) and have had cause to spend a nice few quid once or twice fixing things i didnt catch in the short time i had to look them over.

Id recomend buying from a dealer or privatly and having a mechanic check it before hand.
    hope this helps!

what are yous looking for out of interest?

    can you save money
    Yes

how often and where do they been on?
Once a week ish per auction house

    WARNING:
You are buying a car as is. There is no guarantee of condition, history or even a hoover before sale.

Quite often cars and Jeeps are dumped in auction so garages can get rid of a headache.

Another issues is private individuals who don't know what there at bid up the car to silly money.

So if you know what your doing yes, if not you could have a missive labour bill on your hands after you buy the car. Which is not really an issue if you bought it to work on yourself and have some free time you budgeted in.

Car Auctions in Irelands are a joke imo, usually end up going way over the price you'd pay if you shopped around.

Unless your in the Trade dont bother.

thanks for the advice folks, will advise him against it. have an uncle who is mechanic who could come if we did decide.

he is looking for mitis L200 passenger, or nissan narava, that type of jeep with 5 seats and then back bit for dogs etc

On the Navara, do a bit of research first. Unless I'm mistaken, they are prone to giving engine trouble, at least on the earlier ones. Not that the L200s are bulletproof either, but probably a safer bet.
