Part Worn Tyres Wanted

I need three part worn tyres in order to pass an NCT retest and was wondering if anybody here may have some or know of somewhere that may supply/fit them.

I'm looking for one 195/55/15 and two 225/50/15. I'm based in Gorey, Co. Wexford but would be willing to travel. Lots of places seem to have the 195/55 but the 225/50 is proving fairly elusive so far!

Cue the 'tyre brigade' and the monthly lecture on part worn tyres...

It helps when you go to a tyre place regularly.
When I fcuked a tyre on a rock that had fallen on the road, he put a part worn, but still good tyre on for €20, cause he knew I would be coming back (which I did to get a full set).
Best try your local tyre place since they would always have more than a few knocking about.
Of course here's the usual "always make sure to have at least matching pairs" lecture, better to have the full set matching, but sometimes you just need something to get you buy...;)

Can you let me know how you get on with them? I will be looking for replacement tyres for my current run flats and would be interested in part worn premium branded tyres as opposed to brand new cheap crap.

As do I. Got real sick of potholes destroying expensive new tyres, though ironically since switching to part-worns Ive had no mysterious flats, no pothole damage etc.

Also nice to spend less, it allows more flexibility in tyre purchases.

Had alot of trouble finding the ones I want. A few places have the 195/55/15's, well one or two, but nobody seems to stock 225/50 or 225/60.

Few people have suggested buying an old set of MR2 alloys (that's what I drive) instead but not many of them around either. Might just have to raid the overdraft afterall!!:(

tyres have to match on each axel, as in the front too have to be the same, and the back two can be different than the front but have to be the same type, that makes now sense. but you wont pass the nct unless they are.

Of course the front to back can be different. Anyone with a Lotus Elise will tell the fronts are 15"s and the rears are 16"s.

Just to let ye know, got on grand with them. Basically paying 1/3 the price of a new tyre, which still has 70-80% of tread left.
