    hi im looking to buy my brother a multimedia player....
    does anybody know of any multimedia hard drives ya can buy that will play these files??

    Yep, there are lots. WDTV, AC Ryan, Asus O!Play, Xtreamer, etc. Check the HTPC and Media Centre section for more info:

    Bear in mind that MKV is just a container. You also need to make sure the player you buy can handle the video and audio codecs that you need it to.

    The french TNT boxes will also play mkv's.

    AKIRA DHB-B36HR. You connect your Drive to it and it will diaplay and record Irish DTT and play mkv's/avi to it if you have a HDD already. €55 delivered (sperate hard drive required).
