It's just swamp gas from a weather balloon that was trapped in a thermal pocket and which then reflected the light from Venus.

    http://meteorshowersonline.com/geminids.html
An observer in the Northern Hemisphere can start seeing Geminid meteors as early as December 6, when one meteor every hour or so could be visible. During the next week, rates increase until a peak of 50-80 meteors per hour is attained on the night of December 13/14. The last Geminids are seen on December 18, when an observer might see a rate of one every hour or so.
Should see peak of it tonight from midnight onwards.

    It's a Chinese Lantern! Honest.

I've had one of these in the car for the last few weeks.

Tonight might be a good time for a launch. Keep an eye out for it over Blackrock about 11.30.:)

I've seen a good few this evening while driving. Going to head back out around half twelve for some wishin'!

It's well worth throwing on a jacket and heading out. Last year was class, hopefully this year will be as good or better.

Have a bleedin pain in my neck now too, trampoline was frozen.

There's only one night of shooting stars that I want to see and that involves the X Factor finals and a psycho with an ak-47...

While I didn't actually see it there was a massive one over Belfast at around 2am, was out the back having a smoke and the whole garden was lit up for a second by a bright, white/bluish light. By the time I looked around it was gone:(. Still pretty spectacular
