Once your water is turned on again it should fill up itself.

    Is it not back on?

I was notified that the water was only on for a couple of hours in the morning and evening, due to fixing leaks... it has not refilled the tanks as yet. This has been going on for 4 days.

Have you looked into the tank to see that it is actually empty. It may be full but the pipework is air locked.

check if the tank is empty as suggested above, if it is then you may need a plumber as there could be dirt stuck in the ballcock from the water being turned back on.

Very common when water mains are turned off and on repeatedly!

yup especially when its due to leaks, they dig up the hole cut the pipe and all the soil gets mixed in with the water so normally the sink tap would run brownish for a min but if it fills the tank first then the dirt gets stuck.

I can't believe how often water is off down south

I would like to bet its just pressure problems at the moment....

I tried to pill my mothers with a garden hose today and the water had not the pressure to rise up.

My honest feeling on this is get a bucket and bring it up every night to flush the toilet...

Should sort itself in a week...

God knows a plumber cannot do much if the airlock is deep and far.

Wouldn't the pressure blow any airlocks out of the mains? If its in the pipes from the tank, then its reasonably easily sorted.

I think joey is meaning an airlock in the hot/cold from the tank being drained down

If the airlock is in the hot?cold from the tank then it's easily fixed. Get a plumber to disconnect the the two taps furthest from the tank and let air clear from them. Pretty easy to do, only ever came across one airlock in this location that needed to be pumped out

Council must have fixed leaks as water all day for the first time in 5 days, left the taps open and heaps of air, hissing etc until after about 5 minutes water started to come out.Hurrah for hot showers!!!
