    Hi,

Hoping someone can advise me on this, I purchased a 2002 passat from northern ireland 2 weeks ago, before buying I did checks with the vrt calculator online and got back 600euro,..now since buying the car the cheapest quote is coming back at 1500,. does anyone know if something has changed or is there anything I can do to contest this charge?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

Don't know if anything changed on the ROS calculator but it doesn't really matter what figure this gives you, its only an estimation. AFAIK the only way you will know exactly how much VRT to pay is to get the car NCT'd. This is a requirement for all cars bought and brought into the state since 1st Sept to be NCT'd.

This will give you some more info:

you can appeal it, but only once its paid.

Find the Price of several similar cars on carzone, deduct a given amount for th difference between asking price and likely selling price and present to the revenue.
