Story lads, basically im 17 (18 soon) so when i ring insurance companys and ask for insurance, they laugh and hang up... And i was told about commercial insurance on car-vans (normal cars like fiesta but with no back seats and covered back windows), so i got a quote and its ridiculously cheap compared to normal insurance, saving about 1000-1500.. But today i was talkin about it and i was told i cant drive it outside of workin hours even tho theres an option to put on insurance cert thats say im only using the car for the use of own goods ( nothing being carried in it cept my schoolbag and dog or something haha ), i dont believe this as my dad used to hav a van and drove at any time needed for both work and pleasure, can anyone clarify this for me please, ill have a full license and am a student with no job, cheers guys:)

My first car was a fiesta car-van. Same reason as yourself the insurance was much cheaper. I was with Quinn and the cover I had covered me for social domestic and pleasure use.

It was specific insurance for a car-van but it wasn't commercial insurance as far as I remember. It was a few years ago so I dont remember all the details. Most of my friends went down the same route getting car vans as their first car and none of us had any problems with insurance.

When you get quotes you need to confirm you are covered for social domestic and pleasure use.

Nice one man, getting quotes of 2700 on a 0.9 fiat seicento and a quote of 1750 on a 1.8 turbo diesel fiesta.... makes no sense, i suppose not having back seats shows yer sensible in sum way or somethin, thanks a lot man:D

As I said just confirm that you are being quoted for a policy that covers social domestic and pleasure use, then your covered to use it as you would with a car.

I think the fact you can only carry one passenger is one of the main reasons for the insurance being cheaper.

Not having back seats means you're much less likely to have your buddies in the back goading you to drive her on ;)

Less passengers + less distractions + less people injured if the worst were to happen and you had an accident = lower risk + lower premium
