03 Renault Laguna - need help!

    Hi all,

I have a 03 Reno Laguna which is way behind in NCT. The engine has never given trouble, but the electrics are a nightmare. The list of problems:

    - Electric windows - driver & passenger no longer work
    - Passenger side wiper no longer works after the snow(!)
    - Child lock button never worked

I really need the first two items fixed to pass the NCT, but Reno dealer started mentioned around 350-400 PER WINDOW at which stage I was driving away.

Can anyone advise where / how to go about getting this fixed? I dont know any mechanics, and hoping there are some out there who could do with a bit of custom.

    Thanks

I suspect that €350 price would be for parts only, excluding fitting.

You can get parts from other sources and get any garage to fit them. These parts are unlikely to be genuine Renault parts but who cares.

This UK seller has them for between £60 - £130 (€160) depending on type and whether or not you need a motor. (I've never used this crowd so I'm not recommending them above anyone else)

    Any mechanic could fit them.

    Could also try Mick's garage

Thanks slim. Couldn't give a toss if genuine parts or not.

All I want is to get a few more years out of it rather than buy another motor at this stage...

If the drivers side wiper still works I'd imagine the linkage has broken on the left side or the splins have wrung and is stopping it spinning. I assume it was a bit stuck and strugling to free itself? Wipers can be very suseptible to being used when stuck. Usually the motor burns out, but it cant be that if one side is still working.

By the child lock not working what is it doing or not doing? The switch on the drivers door is just not doing anything when switched?

Have you checked the switch is not just broken? (seeing as the child lock swicth is also affected). With respect to dealers, a lot will just go straight to new regulators when they hear the windows are not working.

can you tell me if the electric windows have seperate controls for both the passenger and driver side or just driver side controls for all? plus do the windows work when you press different controls or not at all from any control? also are you in dublin?

Window regulator is a very common fault on Renaults and Nissans of that vintage. Laguna II and Megane II eat them.

If both windows are not working along with the switch for childlocks (and to stop rear windows from operating) that are all on the same unit, I'd be investigating the cheap solution of the switch being faulty or something connected to it being loose or broken befroe I'd be shelling out for new window regulators.

OP I assume you checked the simpel things like fuses?

Thanks all, appreciate all the info. To answer all Q's:

    - yep I'm in Dublin, beside marley pk

    - the windows make a grinding noise but don't move. Would suggest the motor might be ok but dunno. Driver controls both, but passenger has control too, same result.

    - you have to keep holding the child lock button for it to work. The young lad is in a baby seat and forgets most of the time but occasionally remembers so opens the door, usually on the m50. Think the dealer was saying 400 but I was already on my way. Big lump of blutac might suffice in the meantime!

    - you could be right about the wiper as it's just limp but drivers works so might look and see if anything obvious.

    Thanks again all, appreciate it

If your handy with a few tools, i'd pop the door cards off

and try the windows(you'll need a helper) mechanism could be just stuck.

Fixed a few using WD40 after checking them out.

As for the wiper again spanner job. 10mm nut usually.

Worth inspecting as some time a wiper

connecting arm can pop off. So the motor is working but the arm

    isn't moving.

Child lock i can't help with though :)

If you want to save money and can live with it, the passenger side window doesn't need to work for the NCT.

I paid 120 quid for a passenger side regulator incl motor from micksgarage and fitted it myself with a bit of help. Ebay would generally be cheaper than mick's.

The equivalent part for the drivers side is dearer (but nowhere near the 350 -400 dealer price)

I'd take the door cards off an have a look at the state of the window regulators. While the card is off, reseat the electrical connectors in the drivers door and perhaps you'll solve the child lock problem
