Biking.ie put up this post on Friday last: Biking.ie Ballinastoe Update: Still lots of snow on the ground but the road up is ok. The trails and fireroads all have a heavy layer of snow on them too.

Maybe fire them off an email and ask as they are based down there.

that fireroad is crazy, knocks the bollix out of ya before even starting on the trails, terrible design, id avoid any trail with a snow cover!

Ah for a someone starting out its pretty damn harsh. I remember my first time mountain biking with my m8's and that fireroad killed the lot of us.

Could be worse, imagine that fire road on your way back to the car park at the end of the spin!

I don't know what it is about that section of fireroad, it is really short, and doesn't seem to be steep at all, but by god it knocks the wind out of me something ferocious.

You have to negotiate much longer climbs in ballinastoe, but that first little section:eek:

Its not that you're not warmed up either, because its no easier when doing a second loop!

Well went out this morning. Up as far as the latest tree felling, ok. Some ice/snow/slush on the fire roads.

After that its walking country. Even the tracks are not passable. You get a few metres clear and then snow/ice for patches.

So loop around from halfway point. I would very much doubt if this will be clear for the weekend.

iver been on the bike a good 10 years and had the pleasure of doing the circuit with a top norwegian xc specialist, even he admitted he was panting more than usual!!!
