We are in the process of planning a wedding with 190 guests.

What is the norm for seats per table? The hotel maintains 10-12 is ok but to me 12 people is allot at a table.....

Anybody who has done a seating plan recently will know the pain of it so any hekp would be appreciated!!

I would probably think 10 myself!...Unless the room will look cluttered with the extra tables you will need to have only 10 at each.
You probably could fit 12 at a push...but no harm in giving people an extra couple of inches room!
If you can fit 19 tables in the room then I would go for that instead of 16 tables of 12.
Also if you by any chance have any unexpected people on the day you can add 1 or 2 people onto the table of 10.

It really depends on the size of the table. We had a mixture at our wedding, the highest number we had at a table was 12 and the lowest was 7. The tables that had between 10 and 12 were 7 or 8 foot I think, and the one that had 7 was a 6 foot table. They were round tables. One of the 12 person tables was right in front of the top table and I could see they had plenty of room. We even had a high chair at that table, which took up more room than a standard chair and it was fine.

Depends on the size of the table.
Lots of hotels told me that 12 at a 6ft table was fine but when I saw it, it was way too squashed. We went with a mixture of 5ft and 6ft tables. We had between 6 and 8 at the 5ft ones and 10 at the 6ft one.

Agree with BC and Toots - it completely depends on the size of the table. I organised an event recently and was told it was 5ft table - 10 people, 6ft table -12 people. In truth it should have been 10 at the 6ft table because 12 were squished.

Find out from your hotel/venue what number of tables they can cater for. they probably already have an idea what way it's going to be laid out for that number
