Photocopy your passport and bring the original and copy to a garda station. It's free.

    This might be called apostille.
As far as I know DFAs on St Stephens Green do it.

You can also ask your local Bank branch/ building society to do it for you

A copy of your passport can be certified by a peace commissioner/commissioner for oaths. Any solicitor will do it for you. It needs to be stamped and signed, saying that it is a true copy of the original.

It's probably not an apostille thats needed here...

Some Gardai in stations will do it out of courtesy, in a commissioners for oaths you have to pay to have it done.

Busy stations might refuse, they are not required to do it.

Could the Post Office do it

Typically you need a certified copy of your passport because you're opening a new account with a financial institution by post (e.g. Northern Rock) and they require it because of money laundering legislation. In your case the need is different but you can go through the same procedure.....just go down to your local bank and they'll do it for you.

Take a photocopy of the photo page of your passport, bring it and the original passport to your local bank, they will stamp the photocopy with the branch stamp and the bank official will sign it for no charge. Just don't try it on Christmas Eve or they may tell you to p*** off, go sometime when they're quiet and there'll be no problem.

Thats a good question. Ive to get a certified copy of my passport to open an online bank account.
The sight said any police station or post office should be able to do it.
But its an english site, so maybe post offices don't do it over here?
