    Hi all,

Was having a look in TK Maxx recently and was wondering about some of the brands. Am probably only looking to spend €50-€70 on a jacket and there are a fair few in this range.

Would any of you know which of these brands would be better than the other or have any had these jackets before: Shred2, Trespass, Tog24. There are others like Dare2B which are around the €100 mark but these 3 are more in my range.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

I would say the Trespass stuff would be good. I have some TOG24 bits and pieces and it's grand. Prefer the Trespass myself.

Don't know about Trespass' ski gear, but I find their coats and other bits and pieces for hiking/walking aren't great. I mean they're fine for a short while but the waterproofing tends to go in them very quickly; you get what you pay for kind of thing.

Like I say though I've never tried their ski gear. Would be interested to hear peoples opinions of the other brands though.

I know you said its outside your budget slightly but I have been wearing the same Dare2be gear for the last 3 or 4 years running & couldn't fault it. Jacket usually gets worn for most of the Winter whereas the trousers only get used when away skiing. Both still good as new. Keeps you really dry & snug. I would definitely recommend them!

Yeah the Dare2B gear does look decent. First time skier though, and will have to buy the pants too so dont want to be out that much just yet.

I remember seeing other non ski gear Trespass clothes before and never thinking much of them, quality wise.

Has anyone heard of the Shred2 stuff? Maybe I have that name slightly wrong?

I think the name is Shredz, but I've never worn any of it. I recently got a Groovstar brand jacket there for €70-ish. Had never heard of them before so went home and googled them, they're a brand from new-zealand. Looked decent enough and had good waterproofing/breathability specs so went back and got it.

If it's just for a holiday or 2 then any of the gear should do just fine. Just look for the waterproofing spec. 10,000 or above is generally accepted as being a 'good' jacket, where as anything below would be more in the 'acceptable' range. If you look at shell jackets rather than the puffy insulated ones, you might get a technically better jacket for the same price. You can then layer up underneath it, depending on weather conditions.

The main thing to look out for when buying is the waterproof rating, the higher the number the better, allot of the gear range from 5000mm (5k) to 25000mm (25k), the jacket I used the last few years was only 6000mm, it done the job ok but by the end of the day parts of the jacket started to feel damp, one day it was snowing pretty bad and it soaked right through. This year I picked up a Westbeach 20000mm jacket in TK Maxx, should keep me bone dry.

    edit...masseyno9 got there before me....:-)

I was in Elverys in Blanchardstown this evening & they had trespass & dare2be ski gear on sale with 40% off. Might bring them within your budget now so thought I'd post it up. Didn't know Elverys even sold ski gear so there's another shop to check out boardsies!

I have got loads of Tog24 stuff, tis really good gear. They have a full outlet store in Kildare Village, worth checking out. I would rate the gear alot higher then the other brands mentioned above

hi, just back from TK Maxx Blanchardstown. They seemed to have a better selection of sizes than the past times I've been. (Also went over to Carrickmines for a look at ski jackets but mainly L & XL). The Dare2B looks good, tried some on and very comfy/warm. I'm a newbie too though looking for beginner gear.

They did have a Goldwin jacket that looked like value altough more expensive than the Tresspass/Dare2b. 120euro, 20,000mm. Does anyone know the brand? Worth the extra bobs? ...tag from shop where it came from had 610 euro, could this be right?

it's this in grey & black
