Alarm in Saab 9-3 keeps going off

2004 car. Alarm going off every hour or 2 all night. I am going insane. Not sure why. There is no message on the screen, which I have seen before when battery disconnected for a service. Even when I start the car, it's gone off. Don't need alarm anyway, any simple way of silencing it?

Is it aftermarket? Pull the fuse:)

    What's aftermarket?

Is it really that simple? Had seen Saab forums with people talking about big soldering jobs, but hoped someone here would know something a lot more straightforward. If it is just a case of pulling the fuse, excellent.

That didn't work. Thing still blaring, lights flashing etc.

Am getting a message now, Theft Protection Failure, Contact Service.

Have pulled out the horn fuse, so hopefully that will end the blaring anyway.

I think I will have to buy presents for every neighbour within half a mile.

Edit - Oh Jesus. That didn't work either. Its going off again.

I'd suggest to turn off/disable the alarm through the options in the on board computer. I'm not 100% sure but I think that you press the CUSTOMIZE button then turn the INFO dial to THEFT ALARM and change the settings. This might give your ears a break .....to get it to the garage. smile.gif
There's some info here about alarm problems on Saab Central

Only change possible is to limit it to door settings, but have it like that since about 5am and thing still blaring every few minutes.

Have seen a few different solutions and explanations, batteries for the alarm, car battery running low, take out fuses, problems with doors/boot latches - have two keys and one of them spent an hour in a washing machine recently.

Looks like garage job. My only concern is that they won't know, I'll pay a ball of money, and it'll go off again in a few days - I understand that car electronics is pretty specialised and not all mechanics are up to speed.

Edit - realised I posted without thanking you for your input. It's been a long night!

I had a same issue on a 00 9-5, and I think the alarm systems on these are similar. The symptoms are caused by age related failure in the alarm siren unit. My alarm began to sound in the middle of the night with no way silencing it. You basically you have three options:

    1. Buy a *new* siren unit (elkparts, ebay)
    2. Change batteries (type 17335, 17335SE will not work) and three capacitors in the siren unit (hard to find the right batteries, and to add insult to the injure this may not fix the issue)
    3. Get the siren disabled in a garage that has the Tech2 and pull the unit out. Immo will continue to work, as will the remote, and the antitheft LED will still blink (This is the option I chose)
