Hi im just looking for some helpfull advice..i have been told many times i am a perfectionist but im not sure if i am or what i should do about it?i spend hours writing assignments for college because i almost analyse everything i say and then re analyse it...i feel like im always writing my way into a failure.the majority of the time and because of this process i end up doing things the night before, doing all nighters to get them handed in, and then my standard is in my opinion far far from perfect, maybe even barely adequate because i have no choice but to get the assignment handed in. i have to do a thesis this year, and the thoughts of it fill me with despair.
if you had any advice id appreciate it.

I think its safe to say, even based on just a single paragraph, you are not a perfectionist.

How is this helpful? It's missing a few capitals, a lot of people write like that on the internet.

OP, I can relate, and I can't say I've found a solution myself, but striving for perfection is futile because perfection is a very subjective thing. One person's perfect is another person's so-so.

All I can recommend is to prepare, start early instead of leaving things until the last minute, and ease up on yourself. If you're not sure how you're getting on, ask your tutors to have a look at your work as you progress so that you'll know you're on the right track.

You'll probably never be perfect in your own eyes so just cover what's being asked of you to the best of your ability, and when it's done, let it go and stop worrying about how it could have been better.

    Hey OP,

Don't mind those other's some people on this site seem to think spelling and grammer mistakes are an excuse to act like a meanie to other posters, so don't mind them. I always type as I think because it's a bloody internet forum not a novel so again don't mind those others.

Anywho, it sounds to me like a simple case of stress. You're sabataging yourself because you getting so stressed about the details that you're not giving yourself enough time to get everything done. My advise would be to contact your college councellor and have a chat with them. Also if you have a lecturer that you get on with very well then I would approach them also, tell them that you are so busy second guessing yourself on every little detail that you're running out of time. Ask them if it would be possible to show them the drafts on your essays, like write your essay, get some feedback, then re-write, get more feedback etc, that way you can see if your second guessing is warranted, it may be unfair to do this with an assignment so maybe ask them to give you an additional essay that you can work out this process with. You need to talk about this because it sounds like you're losing confidence and that's never good. So yeah go and have a chat and see what support is there for you.

    Best of luck.
