talked about this in the nocturnal forum, and I said it was one of the films I try to watch every christmas. someone said it's not a christmas movie, but I disagree, because it parodies the birth of jesus, so it's quite christmasy in that way.

    what do you say?

is life of brian a christmas movie? 102 votes

It is a Xmas movie, in the alternative Xmas sense.:)

    not a xmas movie
I had the same argument before. It can be a Christmas film, yet also, can be an Easter film. Or just a film you watch at any time, just because it's ****ing brilliant.

The wizard of oz is considered one and that has nothing to do with Christmas, so I don't see why not.

I rented the film out on good friday when I was fifteen. My brother never shuts up about how offensive that was since. :pac:

The Life of Brian is what got me into this whole Christianity lark in the first place!!

    dunno
It depends what you mean by "christmas movie".

Not a "Christian Movie" I'm thinking, or you would have capitalized 'Christmas' in the Thread title.

For this time of year it's perfect, but I don't think it would be appropriate if you were a Christian and so I'm gonna say: 'No, it's not'.

    Never considered it one myself

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I vote against. It may be routinely on at Christmas, but then so are Jaws, Star Wars and The Sound of Music.

    NTM

Sound Of Music used to always be on at christmas too.
I remember my mother and sister would always watch it and end up crying.
I guess they wanted the Nazis to win.

    The Sound of Music?

There are better things to do with your two hours, I think. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm sure the kids will love it, and it is one of those 'pop culture' things you have to do, but....

    NTM

But the films that both you and Saila mention have nothing thematically to do with Christmas at all, besides regularly being aired at this time of year. Life of Brian on the other hand is at least partially related as it lampoons The Nativity of Jesus. Of course, the religious reasons for celebration on the 25th of December are as phony and tacked on as the commercialism, but it's still widely considered to be a celebration of the birth of Christ by those crazy Christians. Therefor, it is much more of a Christmas film than Jaws or Star Wars.

    not a xmas movie
Going to definitely watch it this Xmas. Great antidote to all the hypocrisy and bullsh!t that the so called festive season generates.

can be considered a xmas movie
The first scene occurs on the same night Jesus is born. So it's definitely a Christmas film.

    not a xmas movie
Surely any movie that you regularly watch at Xmas becomes a Xmas movie for you. Monsters Inc is my latest one and I only ever watched that on DVD not because it's on TV.

I watched Hunt for Red October last year and now that reminds me of Xmas so to me it will always be Xmas movie.

Yes it can be considered such.

Then again I consider American Psycho an Xmas movie and dig it out each holiday season so my opinion may not be what you're looking for.
