My rate of pay is €8.65. Will my rate of pay be reduced to €7.65 with the new minimum wage that was announced in the budget??

If your employer wants to reduce it, then yes. He just can't reduce it to anything less than that.

If you have a contract at your current rate then it cannot be changed unless you and your employer agree to it.

This reduction is an initiative by the current government to enable employers to hire staff by having a smaller outgoing in personnel wages.

I do have a contract, but would i be right in saying they could just give me a new contract tomarrow with a lower rate of pay?

Technically yes, but if a new contract is drawn up, you have to agree to it as well. Of course, refusal could mean you being let go, but the exact procedure and where you stand will depend on the terms of your current contract.

Not without you signing this potential new contract.
