Nissan Micra - Portable Jump Starter Query

    Hi guys,

I have a 998cc 1995 Nissan Micra. I don't get to drive it that often and if it's left for more than three days it wont start, but a jump start get's it going every time. I'm just wondering would the below 900 Amp jump starter pack be suitable for my Micra?

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/900-AMP-JUMP-START-AIR-COMPRESSOR-4-1-CHARGER-/260578767080?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cabb470e8

    Many thanks.

I had a car like that, there was something draining the batery and no matter how many people looked at it, the problem was never found.

i did buy one of those battery chargers and it work fine, but i found it easier to disconnect the battery if i knew i wasn't going to use it for a few days.

Yes, that one in the link will do the job. A new battery would solve the problem too as lomg as you dont leave it too long between starts (and its a much better solution than having to life the bonnet everytime you want to start the car).

I had a new battery fitted a new alternator and a couple of other things as it was under guaranty, still did not solve the problem.

I wouldn't start spending money on stuff that may not solve the problem, as it is an easy problem to live with.

It was a secund hand car with 6 month garantee, they did offer to give me my money back after I had AA look at it, as they could not fix it.

But I could not be without a car so I decline the offer, it wasn't such a hard problem to live with.

The car now as a new owner and he as not found the problem either...

I replaced the battery and I brought the car to a local mechanic and he couldn't find out why it wasn't starting, his opinion was that it simply wasn't being driven enough. Thanks for the replies guys.

That is rubbish.. I think he doesn't know what to do!

I leave my car every week for 5 days in an Airport Car park.. it always starts.

I''d get the alternator checked and also check the belt isn't slipping.

If you use a jumppack to repeatedly start a dead batt then the jump pack will break after a short while.

I've had a similar problem. Battery would discharge fairly quickly and so would get screwed fairly soon. Had 3 batteries in 5 years. Nobody could find any obvious fault. After a lot of head scratching I disconnected the alarm siren. The siren is a 'self powered' thingie which just means that it has an internal battery to power it if the car battery is disconnected. That seemed to cure it.

What I think was happening is that the alarm battery would self discharge and the alarm circuitry would recharge it from the car's electrical system. Any time anyone checked the car for a strange discharge it would have just been driven and so the alarm battery would not be taking any power from the cars electrical system. But if the car was left for a few days the alarm battery would self discharge and partly drain the car battery.

Anyway, I replaced the alarm siren before replacing the car battery and it seems ok now.
    Touch wood:)
