Hi im gonna be trying to view some books here tomorrow, im from a different University.

Firstly where exactly is it, checked google maps but its not very clear,

and secondly I hear that most books arent on the shelves and you have to request them? How long does this take? How do you do it?

    Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not really sure how it works for people not in the college. Search on http://www.tcd.ie/Library/ if it's in lending or open access, you can read it on the shelves in the library. If it says stacks you need to request it in, but that can take a day or two.

If you look in the lower part of that map there, you can either get into the library complex through the end of the Berkeley library (you walk past the book of Kells signs, up some steps, it's a big ugly cuboid of concrete with it's name on it) or you go in through the Arts Building (if you come in off Nassau street it's the automatic doors on the right, or if you come from the front gate, take a right and it's in front of you spreading out to the left.)

You can talk to the security guards at the entrances if you get lost or confused.

I went in with a friend of mine the other day who's from DCU and had a letter to let him in. He had to go round to the Berkeley entrance because he had to give his letter to the desk just before the turnstiles, to get a slip or stamp or something. That's the entrance infront of where the big giant ball sculpture thing is, concrete place with the name in big letters (already been described). I'd recommend you take that entrance so you dont end up getting sent round the place.

Security staff are really helpful so you should be fine.

Yes you can only use the stand-alone entrance, just walk the length of the arts block and its the next building joined on, entrance infront of the bronze sculpture ball thing. By subject, the Berekeley has psychology and history (also law books etc.), Lecky has all business subjects, geography politics and education and the ussher has all languages, religion, philosophy, nursing and midwifery. There's a good few books that aren't on the shelves but are still readily available in Counter Reserve- beside the issue desks. Hopefully you won't come across too many books that you have to request.
