Recently moved into a new house and there was an already a satellite dish there and wired to the sitting room. it was working for the previous tenant. So i went i i bought a Sky box the was ready for free to air. So all i thought i had to do was connect it and it would work. but sadly this is not the case. In the system setup in the signal test it is not picking up any thing. So there are only 3 things to be wrong, Receiver, Dish or cabling. I have gone to the maps for the satellites and the direction is correct for the Astra satellite. Has anyone any advice on what i do before i call the pro's in?

    Many thanks

    Kevin

It could be the Sky box have you tried the box connected to another dish.

We are in a very exposed area and once or twice, the wind shifts our dish enough to lose all signal, it does not look visually in a different direction, so I doubt if one (apart from Watty/Tony et al) can visually check alignment, unless it way off...

Satellite dish mightn't be aligned to Astra.
Previous tenants might have been foreigners and dish is set for 13,16 etc..
Have seen sky dishes used for this purpose.
When you bring up the signal test screen, what info have you got?
Also, check "f" connector on cable is on correctly, no copper/foil shielding is in contact with the inner core.
    Good luck...

Its impossible to visually see what satellite a dish is pointing at. Barely any difference between Astra 2 at 28 east and hotbird at 13 east. You may see a difference if there is a row of satellite dishes together on a row of houses. If you can get a FTA receiver and see if that picks anything up, then you'll know if it alligned on a foreign satellite.
