Resigning - Company Car

    Hello,

I want to resign and give my employer the benefit of being able, if they want, to find a replacement for me.

I want to keep my company car until the end of the month when I'm planning on leaving the company.

If the company decide to tell me to finish up more or less straight away then I'm going to assume they should provide me with the benefits up to the end of the month. It may be a UK company but our head office is in the UK so the following website should apply.

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/RedundancyAndLeavingYourJob/Resigningorretiring/DG_10026689

What's my question? I want to work to the end of the month because (1) I want to be paid, (2) I would like to finish some things off in work for them and also provide cover over the holiday period.

The car is actually a hire car right now so where do I stand?

If you're resigning, then your employer might let you keep the car until the end of your notice. However, this is purely discretionary.

Given that times are tight, they might decide to play hardball, and demand the return of the car immediately.

Ask them nicely, but be prepared to give up the car early. You'll also need to check your tax liability as well.

    Hope this helps.
