SIPTU leaks private phone numbers of cabinet Ministers

THE confidential mobile telephone numbers of senior government ministers were released on the internet yesterday -- leading to an avalanche of abusive phone calls and texts to members of the Cabinet.

The list of numbers was originally compiled by Siptu, which sent the list to all subscribers to one of its magazines. It was then copied by far-left elements, who posted the politicians' numbers to the private accounts of activists dotted around the country.

Is this irresponsible conduct? Or are ministers fair game for abusive phone calls? Your views please....

    I don't.
Lack of evidence. One persons word what was said, over another.

All a person has to do is keep the text or put the phone on loudspeaker and get a witness.

You would have to prove that the owner of the phone was the person who actually sent it - and anyone hearing the call also could be easily dismissed or assessed as a convenient witness "after the fact".

A good solicitor would make such cases disappear quickly.

    Yes it is.

I have absolutely no problem with people making their feelings known to politicians but it needs to be done in the correct fashion.

Nice to see SIPTU had them on private speed dial, but I suppose now that the brown envelopes are drying up they're none to pleased about it.

Like most people I'm definitely not happy with the current group leading the country, but to release their private numbers is childish and immature. If you want to challenge somebody or make things difficult for them show how incompetent they are, shouting abuse at them down the fun wont accomplish anything, is totally useless and idiotic.

Can we expect the government to formulate a false rape charge against the president of SIPTU to keep him quiet?

The correct fashion has failed time and time again.
