Bass guitar suggestion for trad style music...

    Howdee,

Thinking of upgrading my bass. I play in a trad style band. It's a 5 piece, so we would do jazzed up versions of jigs and reels etc. So, it's semi acoustic guitar/banjo/fiddle/drums/bass.

So, it can get loud at times...

I am currently using an active Aria 5 string I bought for about 200 quid second hand a few years back. I am thinking of upgrading, not by a huge amount, but maybe getting something with a little more quality.

I use an amp, and line it out whenever possible at gigs. I don't need a huge amount of power or poke really, I like to just get a nice clean sound if I can.

Style wise, I do tend to play up the neck as much as hitting the lower notes, and throw in quite a few licks, so it could be described as busy...

On looks alone, the semi hollow Ibanez artcore look pretty cool, as do the solid body artcore basses. I think I'll go with a 4 string too. The 5 string is grand, but in reality, tis a bit of a novelty for what I do on the bass.

Any suggestions on a mid level bass? I'm mainly a guitarist, so don't have a huge knowledge of the bass guitar world. I pretty much played whatever I laid my hands on over the years, and half the time would have borrowed gear...
