will release their fourth album as a free download on Christmas Day, Damon Albarn has revealed. The band's days may be numbered, but that won't stop Murdoc, 2D and Noodle from loosing a batch of new and cut-up songs, inspired by their latest tour of America.Albarn said last month that he was hoping to release the album, which was recorded on his iPad, "before Christmas". We had speculated the LP could be part of the Gorillaz website's digital advent calendar; Albarn confirmed it in an interview with Australia's Perth Now newspaper. "There is a daily door that opens to reveal a gift," he explained. "On Christmas Eve a video for one of the new songs from the iPad album will be released. Then, on Christmas Day fans get the whole album downloaded to their computer for free as a gift."

It'll be interesting to see how good it actually is. I'd say it'll feature many of the guests who appeared on the last album as many of them have toured with Gorillaz.

It will be interesting to hear this, if only from the point of view of how it was composed, I hope he gives an interview/supply's notes regarding the nature of the recording.

Additionally, the Gorillaz are f**king mint and this is free

i cant see this being much good. albarn recorded it on an ipad on tour. he compared this new album to a previos one called "democrazy" which was a demo album he recorded on tour with blur. i have it and its not great, but then again its lo-fi album of half completed songs recorded on tour

Just went to try and download the album - turns out the album is only free to subscribers of their fan club which costs £30.

Poor form.

Though, you can listen for free. Pity I don't have the time today.

yeah i was a bit disappointed at that to be honest, the word "free" was obviously used to score a bit of extra publicity. it worked i guess. i'd happily pay to download the album, just not £30/$45.

Listened to it yesterday..
I thought it was alright.. An interesting idea and fair play for doing it and all that but overall it's really really average.
Though it was always going to be difficult to follow up Plastic Beach!

It's obviously no Plastic Beach, but as a piece of work it's pretty coherent, and I like alot of what I hear. I'll give it repeated listens for sure.
