Hi folks. For personal reasons, I want to legally change the number on my Landcruiser. Does anyone know if this is possible? Would it involve re-regging? Its an Irish no at the moment, I just want a different one. Thanks in advance.

Is it allowed in the North? Could you reg it up there, then back again down here?

    this wont work.

you can change the reg to a NI number, but when you want to drive the car in eire, you will have to use your old number:( that number stays with the vehicle.

Forever? what about those specialised reg's, like all 7's? i thought you could buy them and change your car over to that number?

Nope only way to get that is to buy new and book it, €1000 to book was €315, then hope no one else wants it. If more then 1 person books a number then you all go into draw.

If you book number 11xx77777 you can't register your car till the county reaches that number.

Thanks lads, but feck all this:mad: What about buying another, similar yoke, say a crashed one, and just swapping everything over?

doing things like this is highly illegal, yes it's done but if your caught the revenue will toast your nuts.

Swapping the chassis? and engine bulkhead plate?
That would be some job and likely be very obvious as well.
Have a look under the drivers wheel arch the chassis has the VIN stamped on the chassis rail.
If that doesn't match the VIN on the bulkhead plate.....

With the amount of work involved it would be cheaper to sell what you have and buy a good working one. It'll save you a lot of bother even if you lost out on some money, but how much do you value your free time?

    Dare we ask why?

    It's just a number

You may indeed ask, but all I'm going to say is that its for personal, VERY personal reasons. Certain people have ideas in their heads and attack my vehicle whenever they see it. Its been keyed, egged, had paint thrown at it etc. All unprovable of course, but I cant afford to buy something else. Anyway, I'd get flip-all for this yoke. Thats why I just thought a discreet number change would help. Seems like its a dead end, but thank you all anyway for your replies. Anyone ever have a similar experience, or have any other ideas?

    What about a paint job?

respray it and tint the windows then give it a good clean, people wont notice it then , either that or report these people to the gards, you seem to know who they are

I think you will have to register with the tax office though after change of colour. Open to correction lads.

Tried it, seemingly they have to be caught in the act or on cctv etc. I thought a change of reg might put them off the scent, they might think it was someone elses jeep.

change the colour of the jeep , only park in well lit areas outside pubs etc with cctv

or buy this http://cgi.ebay.ie/E7-LATEST-CAR-TAXI-CCTV-2X-CAMERA-DVR-RECORDER-/350052113394?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CommercialVehicleParts_SM&hash=item5180bb5bf2 fit one camera to the headliner looking out the 3 windows and another one looking out the back

Get a cam for the jeep. Into the headrest, on the ceiling or something. Can be done very easily. Some security companies will do this. Actually there is a fella on here who does that sort of thing i think. Theres your cctv
