Drove to Navan this morning, road conditions were the worst I've seen in my 20 years of driving, cars sliding all over the place, saw a van slide into a ditch, my car was even slipping down the road camber.

Very dangerous, didn't see one gritter truck or evidence of gritting.

Absolutely right, came out of estate this morning and even though roads look ok, they are very slippy. Take care everyone!

Hard freeze last night, will be the same tonight.
Meath co co are spareing thier grit for next weeks forecast cold snap only gritting the most heavily used roads. Inside the housing estates are mad. Cars can't even move off on a flat surface never mind the ones with a bit of a slope on thier driveways.

What's the story with gritting motorways, espicaly ones with a toll? Is it up to the co co or motorway maintenance?

There is a spot on the M3 heading northbound just before the Clonee bridge which holds water and quite alot of it, its lethal and something should be done about it before someone is seriously hurt or worse. That section of road used to the N3 with a speed limit of 100kph but was made into a motorway with a limit of 120kph.

Headed down the Fairyhouse Road last night and almost lost it at one point. Even worse this evening. I did however see a gritter on the M3 last night.

Folks, my understanding is that NRA are controlling the main supplies for the road network, my guess is that there is little or no gritting being done at the weekends, hence why I had a very slippy and nervy run this afternoon between Rathmylon and Trim, absolutley lethal.

Please have a look at this and be prepared as ther is second major front heading our way.

get stocked up by thursday latest as this will last 4 to 10 days and will be nothing compared to the last snow event.

agreed the roads were lethal this morning, was driving into navan from wilkinstown, and i was lucky to keep the car on the road, no sign of gritters anywhere, and dont expect an improvement on that except for some sand and salt mixture spread here and there.

Yep that spot is lethal, I always try and avoid driving in the outside lane at that spot. I wince every time I see people driving towards it at 120, I'm surprised it hasn't been the cause of any major accidents, especially with the ice.

Really not looking forward to more snow and ice. I've gotten used to driving in it now, but there are some people who shouldn't be driving in it at all! Also, I live on a country road and have ended up in the ditch a couple of times, the other day 4 men had to push me out :o

Never thought I'd say this but feck off snow :D

I have trip to make from Dublin, N3 out to R162 Wilkinstown direction this evening. If you could, would you cancel it?

No, I'd allow a good bit of extra time and drive according to conditions.

Anyone know what state the R162 Navan to Kingscourt road is in? Would I be better off leaving the trip until tomorrow or leaving it all together?

I'd say its pretty rough and best taken during daylight hours. Came the Dunshaughlin R157 today to Navan and it was pretty bad in places. Would imagine the Kingscourt road is worst.

Cheers man. I'll see what way it is tomorrow. Probably end up leaving it though.
