Sky were selling their PPV in sterling last night for 14.95, which at the current rate of conversion to euro is 17.86.....

Where are they getting 21.95 from??

Anyone with me on thinking that this is grossly unfair on us?

Also it's UK VAT, not Irish VAT.
    Currency Hedging they will claim.

Sky are regulated by Ofcom. Who don't really regulate.

It drives me insane that they get away with this. It's not just the box office events either, it's pretty much everything. I wrote a fairly substantial email to them on this very subject a couple of years ago. You can have a look at the response I got from them below.......oh wait, I didn't get a response

I must see if I can find the email and I'll post it here for you to have a look.

Well its like this for me, Fri I called them & cancelled my subscription with them.

FTA stuff is mostly whats watched here on sat via 28e, I now have Saorview for the Irish stuff & a foreign subscription card for my football which costs me 200 euro a year, compared to 4 times that for Sky when I was watching 10% of the channels with them.

    No brainer for me.

Ive since realised as well the boxing is actually available free to air in most instances. Either Al Jazeera on 26 east or Das Erste on 19 east.

In fairness though, thats ok for the minority that we're in with Motorized systems...

Most folk have only one way to view these PPV at the premium that Sky are looking for unfortunately.

Sky is an absolute rip off when it comes to the sport of boxing. All of their PPV boxing events are available elsewhere.

Think Sky is bad? In America for a big fight, you could be paying up to $50!

anyone that orders a pay per view fight from sky after the harrison haye joke deserve what they get.

if people stop paying extortionate prices, the prices will eventually come down!!

This is not about the price of the PPV, this is about Irish buyers paying about 4 Euro more than UK buyers for PPV.

I wonder how many people actually order PPV events, IE boxing?

Thats always a thing I've liked to know on Sky

Skys uk prices bear no relation to the Irish ones. I was quoted £60 for a call out and when asked would the euro price be about €70 i was told "oh no, it's €100"!! . I ended up having to threaten cancellation before they agreed to come out for free.

Nope, I don't mind paying for something as long as its a universal price for all.

ya but as long as you keep paying the unfair prices, they will keep charging them.

    its a fairly simple concept!

I think you've completely missed the point of this thread.

Oh, I don't pay for PPV's on Sky - I watch them on Foreign channels.

All I was doing was making a point about Sky's own conversion rate being different to that of the rest of the world uses.

Thats a fairly simple concept isn't it ;)

i see where your coming from alright.

but why not start a thread about tesco, marks and sparks and all the rest of the english high street stores that do the same thing over here.irish people still buy there stuff regardless.

i watch all my boxing and soccer on streams,so they can convert it at whatever rate they like.:D

This is a broadcasting section, I have an issue with a broadcasting issue.

Thats the main reason I don't start a thread on Tesco's etc lol.

O/T - Streams are so poor but will improve in the future imo.

Except that its illegal to do that. Its breach of copyright. If everybody did this, the event wouldn't be on TV, because the broadcaster would not be able to afford to purchase the rights, because they would not make any revenue from it. People who themselves break copyright are dependant on enough other people continuing to pay to watch in order for there to be something to stream in the first place.

Long story short - you can't discuss it here and a ban will be issued to next person who suggests it.

Since it is the DTH Sky Box Office price that's been discussed I've moved this thread to satellite.
