    Hello all,

Im heading out in Dublin next Saturday (18th Dec) for the first time in a long while and Im looking for a good venue with decent live ballads... Preferably not Temple Bar and hopefully more than just "The Fields of ... and "The Irish Rover"

Can anyone recommend anywhere....happy to head out of town a bit if required...

    Thanks in advance...all suggestions welcome

Probably not of much use to you, but there's an excellent ballad session in Kate's Cottage (across from Busáras) every Sunday night.. It's not mic'ed, just 3 or 4 lads sitting in the corner playing.. There is an older guy there most weeks with an unbelievable voice.. Nice fellas too..

If anyone pops in, ask 'em to sing The Contender..

Good ballad nights seem quite rare in Dublin - lots of the Temple Bar'Tourist gack, and plenty of trad sessions, but very few ballad nights in my experience.. Hopefully some of the more knowledgeable folk on here will have a suggestion for Sat..

Dublin needs some folk music clubs!
