    Hi Guys,

I'm sure i used to ba able to do this but for the life of me can't seem to work out how.

Basicaly i've made an A4 flyer in Microsoft Word and want to also print it out as smaller A5 leaflets (so in other words change it to landscape with 2 A5 versions of the bigger portrait A4 version) The flyer consists of an image with text layered over it...all done in word.

If anyone can tell me where i'm going wrong here...i'd be very grateful as i'm sure it's one of those obvious things that i'm missing:rolleyes:

    Thanks
    DrF ;-)

To change your page to landscape, you'd go File - Page Setup. Then under the Paper Size tab you can change the page orientation.

Then the way I'd go about making two A5 size flyers, would be to go Format - Columns, and set it to two evenly sized ones, divided down the middle. (In XP anyway, this is done by selecting one of the graphics.) This will basically make Word break to the top of the right hand side of the page once you reach the bottom, rather than breaking to a blank page. You can also tick "Line Between" to insert a line down the middle of the page. Might make it easier to cut evenly!

Once you've done that it's basically just a case of resizing and formatting your text and images. If you want to leave some blank space at the bottom of the flyer, when you've finished your left column, you can go Insert - Break to skip to the right one.

    Hope that helps.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't realize you had an image beneath your text, but I think the above should still work.

Most printer drivers have a zoom function to print multiple pages on a single page - why not print two copies on an A4 page and cut/guillotine them into two...?

if your printer diver can't do this then get pdfcreator from sourcefourge or other wise generat a pdf from the document

then adobe acrobat will allow you to print multiple pages on a single one

I have recently had to work a lot with A5 for a little project I'm working on .. I would reckon that the easiest thing to do would be to take a formatted A5 booklet template and just copy your information into it..

    http://www.diywedding.ie/candypress/scripts/openExtra.asp?extra=18

On this page there is a template for Weddings that would probably do the job.. just delete the extra pages, and put your information in to the first two pages..

Thanks guys! I finally got it right last night...so cheers for all the tips.

Went to print it up today but when i opened the word doc in internet cafe the font styles and sizes had changed...tried two different cafes (one with a newer version of word and one with the same version i have here 2003) and it was happening with both my A5 (double flyers) and A4 (single poster) versions

Any thoughts on what could be happening?

(i'll actually put this up as a seperate post but just incase any of you have experienced this before???)
    Cheers:)

something about embedded fonts when you save

or you could save as a pdf so you don't worry about fonts and different versions of word

Save it as a Rich Text File (RTF) or PDF before you take it out with you
an RTF holds every piece of information about the document and transfers across PCs and platforms without loss. The file is generally very much bigger though

yeah this is a common issue, particularly with web design.. When you open up a word document (or web page), it tries to access the local font store C:\windows\fonts and if it that font is not installed on the local machine it defaults to Times Roman.

You can either embed the font:
(this is a generic instruction, and may not be exact for your version of Word)
    1. Choose Options from the Tools menu. Word displays the Options dialog box.
    2. Make sure the Save tab is selected.
    3. Ensure the Embed TrueType Fonts check box is selected.
    4. Click on OK.
    5. Work with your documents as normal.

    or

Change the fonts to ones that are available to all Windows PC... tahoma, georgia, arial, times roman etc etc
