Professional experience length conundrum

I'm applying for a job at the moment that has a dropdown box wanting to know the length of professional experience I have.

I've spent the past four years doing a PhD, which essentially was the same as doing work. The subject matter was unrelated on the whole to the job.

Do I go for Beginner or the 3-5 Years option?

My gut reaction would be to say "beginner". But I haven't done a PhD so I don't know what's involved.

    +1

Especially as the subject matter is unrelated.
