I was just wondering how is this test carried out,can it be done in the hospital where baby is born, does it take long to get results, does it cost much etc?

I have never heard of a hospital doing it.

    My experience:

What you'll be asked to do is take swabs from the inside of the child's cheek, and from father, and ideally also mother but mother is not necessary. The kit to do this would be provided by the lab, and you send them back via post.

There are companies here and in the UK that will do paternity tests but due to legal issues they typically require the mother's consent and proof that you have guardianship of the child. If the mother's consent and/or guardianship is a problem for you, there are American companies for whom this is not an issue.
