This is one of lifes conundrums and seems to happen so often, happened to me too, u have to make yourself happy or you will resent him, if you guys are meant to be u will both get back together at some stage, he has to make himself happy too and if stayin does that for him...

You'd think a boyfriend of six years would deserve more respect than this. You want to go, he doesn't and to be honest his reasoning seems a lot more sound than yours. Personally I think you come across as selfish in this post. And why would you leave full time, presumably stable employment to go work in a bar in this economic climate?

You could wind up in HUGE trouble if you follow through with your current plan.

I presume you are planning to go work illegally in Canada as I can't see any way in this world you'd be granted a working visa for another country while you are running out on a significant debt. Your uncle could jeopardise his business if he hires you illegally, so what you think he would do and what he would actually be willing to could be poles apart.

Additionally if you run out on the mortgage and your boyfriend can not/or will not cover the repayments by himself you will be legally responsible for the shortfall. You will be liable for your portion of the repayment if you are tenants in common or jointly liable for the entire amount if you are joint owners. You could find yourself declared in contempt of court for not following through on court ordered payments which not being aware of would not excuse you from which could, with our legal situation, see you placed under arrest when you come back into the country. Or declared bankrupt which would basically see you severely financially penalised if you ever wanted to return to Ireland.

You need to grow up and cop on a lot. Whatever about the appalling way you are thinking of treating your partner of 6 years, mortgages aren't whacky rites of passage, they are serious financial and legal commitments. You signed up for yours 3 years ago, if you wanted to travel within it's term you needed to consider that before you borrowed the money. It's not impossible to travel with a mortgage but if it is possible for you, you need to have the specifics seriously planned and agreed with your co-borrower before you even consider it. Just walking out will have repercussions you have clearly not even begun to consider.

Your partner's right to be concerned - if you have a mortgage this kind of adventure could lead him to financial ruin.

There's going to be mass emigration from this country. You have no way of guaranteeing you can rent your place out for the next few years. And the amount you get from it will certainly go down. He'd be crazy to do it.

If you take off with your friends the only decent way to do it would be to buy him out of the mortgage.
