Flat battery question...

The battery in my old Micra is completely flat (the alarm in it is fecked and drains the battery even when the alarm is not switched on). Anyway, the battery is fairly new, and I'm thinking of getting one of those battery chargers in Halfords. Thing is, on an alternator anyway, there needs to be a little bit of power in the battery in order for it to charge. Will a charger charge the battery if it's completely flat, or will I have to charge the battery with jumpleads from my Escort?

The Halfords thingy will start it. Is the alternator dodgey???. Batteries are crazy money as of late. I paid nearly 500 euro today for a few batteries.

I've charged lots of flat batteries using this and would recommend it, especially when its on special offer as now

But these batteries were still showing some signs of life eg the car's interior light would work. So I can't answer your question about charging a battery which is apparently dead.

No the alternator is fine. It's just the car alarm is draining the battery within a few days (as I said, even when the alarm is not on). Have to disconnect it.

Yeah probably, but the car is in long term storage (in a shed), so no real need for the alarm!

I might get that charger in Argos, no harm to have it.
