iPhone not charging...

I have a 3G and it won't charge for me. Last night the home button went and it went dead over night so put it on charge this morning, it will not charge anymore, tried using a few different USBs and used the laptop and a plug charger too.

Tried pressing the home and power button together and holding it down, it will start to charge but as soon as I take my finger off them it stops.

    Any ideas?

how long are ya leaving it plugged in for, it can take 4 or 5 minutes to show that its charging after it goes dead

I'd leave it plugged into the wall charger for a good while (Say an hour) Charging from a laptop is always slower.

If it doesn't pick up a charge from the wall after an hour, your probably looking at a new battery.

the usb dock seems to be gone, or you dropped it and the connection is loose.
Let me know if you want to get it fixed

Might sound silly, but check the charging port and make sure there's no fluff/debris in there.

My phone just stopped charging one day, would charge fine in a Sony docking station but not with the regular charger.

It was about a month before I copped the culprit was a tiny bit of fluff in the port, toothpicked it out and voila.

Make sure you're using an official cable as well, some of the older/3rd party cables don't work on newer devices - something to do with apple removing support for charging through firewire or something.

only firewire cables are not supported.
