Business Name - Responsibilities?

    Hey Guys,

Just wondering, I would like to register a business name as a sole trader with the CRO.

In doing so will I be taking on any major responsibilities?

I'm testing the waters for a business model and if successful I would like to have already secured a business name etc.
Not to mention having having a business name in the first place would be important to help launch.

Will registering cause any issues with tax or current employer?

It would be months before I start taking anything in, and again, only if successful.

    Cheers,
    Paul

Registering a trading name on CRO doesn't give you anything other than an official declaration that you are trading under a name other than your given name (e.g. John Smith Hardware etc).

As a sole trader your not required to submit any formal documentation above and beyond what you normally would as per tax requirements.

You may wish to talk to your current employer to make sure they're okay with it, but its not really required. Nor is actually registering a business name incedentally. It is however an official document that "proves" your a business, and as a sole trader its often the only form of documentation you can give for wholesalers etc.

I registered my name back in '06 and left it dormant for a while until I finished college, so yeah there shouldn't be any issue for you.
