Drove the m6/m4 to dublin this morning and passed two electronic signs advising of ice in the "fast" lane.

Is it any wonder people cant use motoways in this country when the road authority cant label lanes correctly.

Fog warnings would have been more useful too...

Well if they said "overtaking lane" most people wouldn't know what they were talking about :D

Alternatively if they said 'overtaking lane' it would be too long for the sign and people would spend longer trying to read it and crash.

'Fast' is 4 letters. Its easy to fit on a sign and quick to read.

Seriosuly people on here need to get their high horses to bend down for a drink of water every now and then on this particular 'issue'

Well 'Outer lane' would only be one letter longer and with would be accurate so there's no need for it to be wrongly called the 'fast lane'

Lots of people confuse the inner and outer lane terminology however. Hell it confuses me.

Its not an issue of being on a high horse, its a driver education issue which is far more important.

Incorrect lane usage at motorway speeds can be lethal.

Im just disappointed that they get it wrong in a safety message of all places.

Calling it the 'right' lane would probably be the best option. Then you just have to hope most people know left from right!:D

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Well the issue is not the slow/fast thing, its the authorities not even getting the basics right.

    Two mistakes were in evidence

    1 the lane was wrong
2 the message was inappropriate to conditions. Its 6c and heavy fog, no ice at all

With the rsa spending a fortune on education ads and a fortune been sent on speed cameras to ensure we drive well, the least the nra can do is get their signs in order. How many idiots passed that each day and think "so it is the fast lane" while at the same time we through the rsa pay a fortune on motorway education. There was a recent capaign on this very issue on tv.

Is it too much to expect with the fortune we spend on these roads and organisations that this stuff is right

    What's a fast lane?

More commonly known as the BMW lane...

... makes you wonder why they bothered with the lane change warning technology. j/k

    I'm bored of this thread.

I'm going to start talking about FOG Lights. Why do people persist in driving with them on? :D

/grabs coat after leaving fog light bomb on the table

Yes I always get dirty looks for having the front and rear ones on all the time. I think they look well..;) especially when doing 180 kph in the Fast lane driving an articulated truck eating a breakfast roll and talking to my buddies on the phone.:D

And they all lived happily ever after.

    The end.
