    Don't get him a bow, get him a beginners course at a local archery club. You don't know if he'll take to it or not and he'll need lessons either way.

    Agree with that advice. Anyone going to archery lessons is advised (quite rightly) not to buy a bow til they've been shooting at least 3-6 months and get a feel for their comfortable draw weight and also get the right bow type, length, know their draw weight & correct spine of arrows, etc, etc. If you're thinking of lessons, there is an archery site that lists all the clubs available where you can learn south and north of Ireland.
